ALEXANDRIA, VA. — At a time when knowledge of the Earth is increasingly important, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI), in collaboration with ExxonMobil, is excited to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 Geoscience and STEM Teaching and Learning Academy (TLA). This program is specifically designed to support K-8 educators who are new to teaching earth sciences and are seeking to enhance their teaching skills and knowledge in this vital field.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is saddened to share the news that colleague and friend John G. Mulvihill passed away recently. Mulvihill served for 25 years as Director of AGI's GeoRef Information System, the world's premier bibliographic database for geoscience research literature. He greatly expanded GeoRef's content, which topped 2.1 million references in 40 languages by the time of his retirement in 1998. Mulvihill received the William B. Heroy Award for Distinguished Service to AGI in 1998 and the Geoscience Information Society's Mary B.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is saddened to share the news that colleague and friend Dr. Jan van Sant passed away on October 26, 2023, at the age of 91. Dr. van Sant served as Executive Director of the AGI Foundation for many years, raising more than $20 million and overseeing support for numerous AGI education programs and initiatives benefiting the geoscience community. Prior to that, his career spanned decades with ExxonMobil and Penzoil. In 1999, Dr. van Sant received AGI's William B. Heroy Jr. Award for Distinguished Service to AGI.
