This is a good supplemental activity to the mineral identification activity. Now that your students understand that physical properties can be used to identify minerals, they can use this knowledge to identify minerals and other natural resources without performing the tests themselves. Pass out this chart to your students. Each day of Earth Science Week, give your class the three clues for that day.
Have your students complete the chart each day. The clues range in difficulty from easy to very difficult. Students may work in groups or individually, with or without book resources (Mineral Identification Guides or textbooks) to aid them. At the end of the week, collect the charts and reward the group or individual with the most correct answers.
