Team Name

Rock Hard

Educator Margaret Salter and students Nick Urbanic, Hayes Densman, Savannah Urbanic, and Drake Densman (Milton, Fl)

Team Description

Nick has a interest with video taping and editing and with the help of his friend Hayes they embarked on a journey into the woodland area in their hometown to discuss the three type of rocks they are studying in science. As they began their journey their younger brother and sister wanted to take part in the production. Although the different type of rocks may not be readily found in their area the goal is to encourage kids their age to explore their environment and learn about cool rocks.

Video and Location Descriptions

In this cool video Nick, Hayes, Savannah, and cinematographer Drake, explore the woods and take the opportunity to teach others about the three different type of rocks that can be found, igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary as well as minerals. They want to share their interest in rocks and help other kids learn about rock characteristics and to explore the outdoors!

We are the Science Superbs! We go to school at Academy International in Colorado. We are in 5th grade and we are truly fascinated by science.

Video and Location Descriptions

Inspiration for our video came from our earth science study. We wanted to show our knowledge of natural forces that create change to earth's surface and found evidence of erosion, weathering, and faulting at beautiful Garden of the Gods.
Garden of the Gods is a public park located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, US. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1971.

Deal Island

Educator Kolby Noble and students Ashlynn Merrit, Matthew Price, Lasadia Skelley, Dawson Daniels, Nathan Bradford, Jazmine White, Madison Mechalske, Ethan Scott, Alyssa Moisan, Kenny Stachawski, and Paige Barnes (Deal Island, MD).

Team Description

The team that worked on putting together the video consists of one fourth grader and nine fifth graders. They are some of my students at Deal Island School, who helped design the overall layout of the video, what we'd film, and what we would discuss.

Video and Location Descriptions

We filmed areas and wildlife you can find in Deal Island, Maryland. This included our marshland, the Chesapeake Bay, as well as turtles, chickens, and birds. Our class is working on partnering with a classroom found on Ometepe in Nicaragua, so we focused also on the connections we will make with the neotropical migratory birds we share. In the film, one student releases a duck that is migratory.
