Governor of the State of California
WHEREAS, California has a unique geology and abundant natural resources; and
WHEREAS, earth sciences and the development of mineral resources are fundamental to the health, safety, welfare and economy of this Great State; and
WHEREAS, understanding earth sciences can help Californians prepare for natural events such as earthquakes, erosion and landslides, and help lessen some of their disastrous effects; and
WHEREAS, during Earth Science Week 1999 variety of state and national organizations will be using this opportunity to increase education and awareness about earth sciences;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gray Davis, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim October 10-16, 1999 as "Earth Science Week."
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 7th day of October 1999.
