2004 ProclamationsOn October 8, 2004, President George W. Bush issued a message in recognition of Earth Science Week. In addition to the presidential message, the former director of the U.S. Geological Survey, Dr. Charles G. Groat, and the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere (and NOAA Administration), Admiral Charles Lautenbacher, Jr., issued a joint statement on the importance of Earth Science Education.
