Proclamations
The Association of American State Geologists adopted a resolution
designating the second full week of October as Earth Science Week. In
July, 1998, Senator Ron Wyden
(D-OR) read a statement containing this resolution into the Congressional
Record. In 2002, AASG passed a motion
to reaffirm their support of Earth Science Week.
A gubernatorial proclamation from your state sends a message emphasizing
the importance of celebrating Earth Science Week. AGI is currently working
with each state geological survey to encourage proclamations to be made
on the state and national level. If your state has not yet officially
recognized Earth Science Week, you can work with your state
geological survey to encourage your governor to proclaim Earth Science
Week 2012 an event in your state.
