The Geological Survey of Alabama and the University of West Alabama take the lead in presenting Fossils of the Black Belt 21, the latest in a long-running series of annual field paleontology workshops for teachers. This year's workshop will focus on paleoecology and biostratigraphy.
This field workshop will be virtual this year. Part one will be a livestream YouTube video exploration of a chalk outcrop, in which attendees will use fossils to determine the age and environment of deposition of the chalk. In part two, attendees will use pre-mailed fossil-rich sediment samples to determine depositional environment and age of the sample (both different from part one). Participants must register in advance ($28 fee).
