American Geosciences Institute, October 2025

Earth Science Week (ESW) is just around the corner! We invite you to celebrate “Energy Resources for Our Future” all year round, but especially during October 12-18, 2025, by attending ESW events and promoting the study of the Earth.

Special 2025 ESW Contest for Educators

Science educators, it’s your chance to shine! Submit a hands-on lesson or activity on “Energy Resources for Our Future” for a chance to be featured on Ward’s World and to win a $300 Ward’s Science gift certificate and an AGI publication. Check out the 2025 Earth Science Week Lesson Plan Contest for more! Submissions due November 14, 2025.

Additionally, check out some free energy-related activities from Ward’s Science on the ESW Online Toolkit!

NEW Sponsor for No Child Left Inside Day!

The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) is joining Earth Science Week 2025 as the official partner for No Child Left Inside (NCLI) Day, helping students get outdoors to explore environmental and earth science firsthand. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 14, 2025, and discover activities and resources that bring hands-on science learning to life!

Help spread the word using the NEW social media graphics for NCLI Day!

Be sure to check out NEEF’s new webpage for NCLI Day and related ESW activities (use the No Child Left Inside Activity filter).

Earth Science Week Webinar Series

On Monday-Thursday of ESW 2025, AGI will premiere a new webinar that covers an earth science topic as it relates to energy, research, data collection, and K-12 education. Each webinar airs at 1 PM Eastern Time. This year’s webinars include:

  • Monday, October 13: Spreading Energy Awareness with NEED–strategies and examples for incorporating energy content into your classroom from some energy education experts!

  • Tuesday, October 14: Geothermal: The energy resource of our past, present & future!

  • Wednesday, October 15: Shaping the Future of Energy Exploration with Geoscience and Innovation

  • Thursday, October 16: Geologic Mapping and Modeling

Register for one or more of these webinars here, or visit the ESW Webinar Series webpage for more information. Help spread the word about the ESW webinar series using our social media graphics.

Help AGI Promote Earth Science Week 2025

The 2025 ESW Social Media Toolkit contains a suite of ESW posters, webinar graphics, focus day visuals, and more. The images are pre-formatted for a variety of social media platforms. Feel free to share it with your audiences, partners, or anyone else who can amplify the reach of Earth Science Week!

Be sure to read the “Read Me” file, which provides an overview of how to use the toolkit, along with talking points and sample social media posts.

Feel free to share original posts using the hashtags below, or simply retweet/repost @earthsciweek on Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, and/or Bluesky:

  • #EarthScienceWeek
  • #EnergyResourcesForOurFuture
  • #ESW2025

In addition to tuning in to the ESW Webinars and posting about ESW on social media, there are many other ways to celebrate Earth Science Week:

  • Participate in an ESW Contest.

  • Order an ESW Toolkit, which contains an array of educational resources.

  • Utilize an ESW resource with students or the public, such as a poster or an activity in the calendar.

  • Attend an ESW Event. Email us to let us know about events in your area: info@earthsciweek.org.

Celebrating Earth Science Week All Year Round

AGI has many resources to help you celebrate and learn more about earth science all year round. Check out the monthly activities created by our ESW partners in the 2025-2026 ESW Calendar:

  • The October activity, from the National Park Service (NPS), has elementary and middle school-aged learners build a model of a geyser to explore geothermal features in national parks.

  • The November activity, from NASA, has learners in grades 3-10 build a solar desalination setup, with an extension for older learners to do calculations on solar irradiance.

  • The December activity, from the Mineralogical Society of America (MSA), has middle and high school-aged learners research and create a presentation on minerals used in renewable energies.

The calendar also highlights earth science-related days and events, such as:

  • October 12-18, 2025: Earth Science Week, organized by AGI with numerous Sponsors and Partners

  • October 19-22, 2025: GSA Connects 2025 hosted by The Geological Society of America, in San Antonio, Texas

    • Come see AGI at GSA Connects! We have five presentations:

      • Sunday, October 19:

          - 8:40 AM CT: Shifting the Appeal: Using Sustainability to Build Motivation for Pre-College Geoscience Learning

          - 9:48 AM CT: Earth Science Week: An International Platform for Broadening Participation in the Geosciences

      • Monday, October 20:

          - 8:20 AM CT: Empowering Teachers Through Geoscience Fieldwork and Professional Interactions
