Photography Contest
Litzia Galvan of Placentia, CA, won first place in the photo contest with an image, captured in Barnestable, MA, of female scientists contributing to an environmental assessment for restoring and protecting the highly productive ecosystems that are salt marshes.
Submissions illustrated the theme “Sustainability in Action.”

Visual Arts Contest
Evelyn MacMichael of Oakland, CA, won first place in the visual arts contest with their colorful, self-portrait drawing that included many examples of ways that she could play a positive role in caring for the planet.
Students in grades K-5 made two-dimensional artworks illustrating the theme “Our Sustainable World.”

Essay Contest
Aislynn Carroll of Virginia Beach, VA, won first place in the essay contest with their paper titled "The Cost."
Students in grades 6-9 wrote essays of up to 300 words addressing how the Earth sciences can help achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in areas such as poverty, nutrition, education, equality, ecosystems, climate change, and/or industrial innovation.

Video Contest
Grace Yan of Morgantown, WV, won first place in the video contest with their entry "Yellow to Green: How School Buses Are the Next Step in Global Sustainability," which aims to raise awareness on air pollution and climate change and show how the smallest things on a global scale can push us toward sustainability.
