Earth Science Week 2026

As we at the American Geosciences Institute prepare to release brand new resources for Earth Science Week (ESW) 2026, please consider how you will join in the celebration! ESW 2026 will take place from October 11-17 and will celebrate the theme “Critical Minerals for a Thriving Society.” Ideas for getting involved include:

  • Plan an ESW Event! Check out our event ideas, past events, and ready-made resources you can use to engage a variety of audiences.

  • Register for the 2026 Earth Science Week Webinar Series! Each webinar will permiere on AGI’s YouTube Channel at 1 PM ET each weekday of Earth Science Week (October 12-16).

  • Get Earth Science Week officially recognized in your state by applying for a State Proclamation. Check with your governor’s office for information on how to obtain a state proclamation. From the American Meteorological Society (AMS)

DataStreme: AMS is restructuring their DataStreme Program into online, go-at-your-own pace courses. “Atmospheric Science for Educators” is piloting now, and “Ocean Science and Climate Science for Educators” pilots this fall.

Introduction to Ocean Sciences, 6th Edition: AMS is publishing Dr. Doug Segar’s classic oceanography textbook (Fall 2026), keeping it freely available via open-access license. Pair it with the optional Ocean Sciences in Action Manual, with weekly exercises, quizzes/tests, and lecture slides for every chapter. New adopters get the manual free for 2026–2027. NEW in Visible Geology: Learn how everyday infrastructure interacts with geology

Visible Geology, the free earth science education tool, now lets students place real-world engineering structures - like tunnels, piles and foundations - in geological models to learn how they interact with the geology below the surface. Enhancements like this, along with a collection of new peer-reviewed teaching resources make it easier than ever for educators and students to explore the underground.

Calling educators who cover Earth Science content in the U.S. (grades K-8) and the U.K (Key Stages 1-3)! Apply for the Edward C. Roy Jr. Award by January 16, 2027.

Win a $2500 prize, plus up to $1500 to travel to the Spring 2027 NSTA Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, to accept the award.
