ESW Toolkits are being shipped!
If you ordered a 2026 ESW Toolkit, be on the lookout for yours in the mail! On the 2026 ESW webpage, you will find additional resources to support your use of the toolkit.
If you haven’t ordered an ESW Toolkit yet, visit the AGI storefront for a 2026 Toolkit celebrating “Critical Minerals for a Thriving Society” or packs of ESW resources from previous themes!
Celebrate Earth Science Week 2026
Earth Science Week 2026 is October 11-17! Hosting or attending an ESW event is the perfect way to celebrate the 2026 theme “Critical Minerals for a Thriving Society.” To support your involvement, the ESW website offers:
- Guidance on hosting events,
- Resources that can be used to highlight the theme or ESW Focus Days, and
- Information on past events, from which you can draw inspiration.
- Email us to let us know about events in your area: info@earthsciweek.org or tag @earthsciweek in your social media posts about ESW events, resources, or other ways your organization or community supports ESW.
Each year, AGI offers four Earth Science Week (ESW) contests. All contest submissions are due by 8 PM Eastern Time, on the Friday of ESW, October 16, 2026. Winners receive $300 and an AGI publication, but ALL submissions are eligible to be shared by AGI on our social media channels and in publications.
Visit each contest’s webpage for more information on eligibility and themes:
- “Reimagining Resources” Photography Contest (all ages, worldwide)
- “From Mine to Market” Video Contest (all ages, individuals or teams, worldwide)
- “Minerals in Society” Visual Arts (grades K-5, U.S. only)
- “Balancing Sustainability and the Demand for Critical Minerals” Essay (grades 6-9, U.S. only)
Other ways to celebrate Earth Science Week include:
- Tuning in to the ESW Webinar Series, airing each day from October 12-16 at 1 PM Eastern Time,
- Collaborating with local geoscientists and geoscience organizations,
- Obtaining a state proclamation for ESW, and
- Promoting ESW online and using the hashtag #EarthScienceWeek.
Celebrating ESW All Year Round
AGI provides many resources to help you celebrate and learn more about earth science all year round. Check out the monthly activities created by our ESW partners in the NEW 2026-2027 ESW Calendar:
- The September activity, designed in collaboration with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, has students analyze data and an article on mineral supplies and uses.
The calendar also highlights earth science-related days and events, such as:
- September 13, 2026: International Day of Cave and Karst, sponsored by UNESCO.
- September 19, 2026: International Observe the Moon Night, sponsored by NASA.
- September 21-27, 2026: National Pollution Prevention Week, sponsored by the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable.
