ESW Toolkits are being shipped!

If you ordered a 2025 Earth Science Week (ESW) Toolkit, be on the lookout for yours in the mail! On the 2025 ESW webpage, you will find additional resources to support your use of the toolkit. Our Online Toolkit also houses electronic versions of some of the ESW Toolkit materials, in addition to others not included in the Toolkit.

If you haven’t ordered yours yet, visit the AGI storefront for a single kit or multipack of kits from 2023-2025!

 

Celebrate Earth Science Week 2025

Earth Science Week 2025 is October 12-18! Hosting or attending an ESW event is the perfect way to celebrate the 2025 theme “Energy Resources for Our Future.” To support your involvement, the ESW website offers:

• Guidance on hosting events,

• Resources that can be used to highlight the theme or ESW Focus Days, and

• Information on past events, from which you can draw inspiration.

Each year, AGI offers four Earth Science Week (ESW) contests. All contest submissions are due by 8 PM Eastern Time, on the Friday of ESW, October 17, 2025. Visit each contest’s webpage for more information on eligibility and themes:

• Photography (all ages, worldwide)

• Video (all ages, individuals or teams, worldwide)

• Visual Arts (grades K-5, U.S. only)

• Essay (grades 6-9, U.S. only)

 

Other ways to celebrate Earth Science Week include:

• Tuning in to the ESW Webinar Series, airing each day from October 13-16 at 1 PM Eastern Time,

• Ordering an ESW Toolkit, which contains an array of educational resources,

• Collaborating with local geoscientists and geoscience organizations,

• Obtaining a state proclamation for ESW,

• Promoting ESW online and using the hashtag #EarthSciWeek

Featured Energy Resource from an ESW Partner

Looking for engaging resources to teach your students about energy topics like solar energy, electricity, and even nuclear fusion? Stanford University’s free Understand Energy Learning Hub is available to support you with tools and information you can use to enhance your lessons and spark curiosity in your students. The Hub shares content from the Stanford Understand Energy course in an easy-to-navigate format that allows you to explore and learn about more than 30 energy topics. Each month, the Energy Spotlight educational newsletter covers one energy topic – like geothermal energy or decarbonizing your life – and provides you with the most important things you need to know: what it is and how it works, why it matters, environmental impacts, future trends, and more. You can read current and past issues and subscribe for free on the Hub’s Energy Spotlight page.

 

Celebrating Earth Science Week All Year Round

AGI provides many resources to help you celebrate and learn more about earth science all year round. Check out the monthly activities created by our ESW partners in the 2025-2026 ESW Calendar:

• The September activity, designed By the Soil Science Society of America, has students conduct a hands-on investigation on the charge of soil. 

• The September calendar page also links to an interactive map where students can explore land cover data to see changes in landscapes around the world. 

The calendar also highlights earth science-related days and events sponsored by long-time ESW Partners and Sponsors, such as:

• September 14, 2025: Protect Your Groundwater Day, sponsored by the National Ground Water Association and many U.S. state agencies.

• September 15-19, 2025: National Clean Energy Week, sponsored by dozens of energy companies.

• September 27, 2025: International Sky Day, sponsored by Only One Sky NFP (non for profit).

  • For 2025, there is a challenge for International Sky Day to create an “Airspace”—a photo, poem, or other piece of artwork—to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the atmosphere and air quality.

  • Print a sign to post in your community or make your own.

  • Promote International Sky Day by posting about it on social media using the hashtag #Airspace2025.
